Reiki is not only a treatment you receive. It can become a personal practice of self-care, awareness, and ongoing growth.
Usui Reiki training is commonly taught in stages. Each level introduces new material while allowing time for practice and integration. The names and structure can vary slightly between lineages, so it is worth understanding how your teacher approaches the journey.
Level 1: Shoden
Shoden means "first teaching." This foundational level introduces Reiki history, the precepts, basic energy awareness, and hand positions for self-Reiki and practice with others.
The heart of Level 1 is personal practice. Students learn how to make Reiki part of daily life and begin observing their own experience without chasing dramatic results.
Level 2: Okuden
Okuden means "inner teaching." Students deepen their practice and are introduced to Reiki symbols and their traditional uses. Training may include distant Reiki, emotional support practices, and a more focused approach to intention.
Level 2 is often chosen by people who feel ready to practise more regularly, whether personally or in a professional context.
Level 3: Shinpiden, Reiki Master Practitioner
Shinpiden means "mystery teaching." This advanced stage explores the Master symbol, deeper spiritual practice, and the responsibility that comes with working at Master Practitioner level.
Becoming a Master is not simply collecting another certificate. It asks for maturity, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning.
Reiki Master Teacher
Master Teacher training is for experienced practitioners who feel called to teach and attune others. It includes the practical skills of preparing courses and attunements, alongside ethics, student care, lineage, and the responsibility of passing the practice forward.
Choosing the right training
Look for a teacher who can explain their lineage, course structure, ongoing support, and expectations clearly. Small groups can create more room for questions, supervised practice, and individual attention.
- Ask what is included before enrolling.
- Check how much practice time is provided.
- Understand the suggested space between levels.
- Choose a teacher whose boundaries and communication feel trustworthy.
The aim is not to rush through levels. It is to build a practice that becomes steady, personal, and genuinely useful in your life.
